It may have been a given, in the days prior to game downloads, that you needed tohave the CD in the drive to install or play the game. I was thinking this, but wasn't sure as I tend to download patches and fixes beforeinstalling, only to find that occasionally my later release version of a game is already patched,and sometimes 'fixed' as well.In this case I had a noCD for the main game, but I just now moved the original age.exe back in and the gamedoes launch without the CD.I may have to check if my Asian Dynasty expansion has a higher version patch than what I've used asAsian Dynasty does require a noCD to launch without the CD.- On the Steam thing. Have you verified this?

There are not very many games that can be redeemed fora Steam download version, and those that can be are mostly, if not all, games with GFWL issues( I had to do this with Batman AC after upgrading to Win10 because Win10 broke GFWL ).- There are also a number of games that used SafeDisk copy protection that the developers have allowed peopleto redeem the key for a download version from their site in order to circumvent the DEM Blocking malware that MShas forced on us. ( I can't find my note, but believe Take 2 games is one such publisher.

I just downloaded age of empires 3 complete collection for my windows 7 64bit computer. I previously had the CD copy of the non-expansion version and had to run that in windows xp and as the administrator in order to get it to work. With this new download from Origin, I can click play in my library but cannot see the game in the Origin Game file on my computer. I'm not sure if the game didn't install correctly or if there is some way to get to the game's properties to switch it to run with xp. I haven't un- and reinstalled the game because I'm not sure if uninstalling would delete the game.Thanks.
