Sometimes its better keeping the stretched sample at the lower pitch so the distortion isnt so apparent.Alternatively you can find the sample on record and sample from a TT while slowing down the pitch control. This way you can slow it down and record it as a lossless file (wav/mp3) then slow it down even further through stretching in your DAW.Hope this helps mate. Right click on the time knob and set the desired length. You can also tweak the knob to for finer adjustment. Then play with the different settings under the resample drop down.
I've found the Pro Transient or Pro Default to be the best sounding default settings. It also depends on how long your trying to stretch it of course, there is no non-destructive way to time stretch something 400%. For making a short sample really long I usually use a combination of time stretching and dropping the pitch of the sample to eliminate the digital noise you get from time stretching too far. A lot of people are unaware that FL has pretty robust time warping capabilities.Question was:I haven't really looked or anything just an idea I had while sitting at work.How do I change the tone of a sample without messing with the speed the sample is played at? (FL Studio)My answer:Easy way is to load it into Edison or sliceX, select a 4, or 8, or 16, etc beat loop. Now hit the F2 key, and a menu will pop up.In this menu there is a tempo section. You can easily detect the tempo by entering the length you selected earlier. (Don't worry this won't trim the sample or anything.)Now save the defined tempo, go back to edison or slicex, and it'll now display that tempo in the top of the sample window, just left of center.Now whenever you export something from the sample window on the playlist or step sequencer, it will retain that information.If your sample was at (insert bpm here) and your song is at (insert diff bpm here), you'll notice that it retained it's bar length. It now has been time warped without changing pitch.
Useful already eh?If we want to change it's pitch while still being in tempo, all we have to do is open up the sample menu (left click on the sample in the sequencer or double click it in the playlist.)There is a section on the first tab that has a drop down menu defaulted to 'auto'.To the left of that is a pitch knob. You can adjust this knob and the speed of the sample won't change.Note that you can change what type of time warping FL uses by making a different selection in that drop down menu.Also note that whenever you change tempo, FL will ask if you want to restretch samples. If you want to retain the current pitch of the sample, select yes.Hope this helps.To answer your question of how to shrink a bar loop down to a quarter note, all you have to do is toggle on the 'stretch' option in the upper left corner of the playlist window.Now simply resize the sample to a desired length, it should automatically timewarp while still retaining it's pitch.Note that timewarping creates what are known as 'artifacts'. Essentially, 'glitches' in the fidelity of the sound. You can avoid this by learning to pitch shift instead when possible.
IIRC, a pitch shift of 100 cents will change the tempo up or down by 5 bpm. It might be 300 cents, just play around with it.If you got any questions about this process just rep this comment.And again, hope this helps.
