I haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books, although my children have. My experience with the stories have all been through the films which date back to 2001’s Sorcerer’s Stone. Currently I am the only one in my house that still enjoys the Potter films. I have seen each of them during their respective theatrical runs, and while I haven’t found them all to be equally entertaining I can’t say that there is one that I haven’t liked. These first two films, Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets brought these delightful characters to life and endeared them to us while fundamentally establishing with each subsequent installment, the books theme of good versus evil. With each film, we see Lord Voldemort becoming stronger and the tone shifting from seemingly brief (sometime humorous) moments of recoverable peril to mortality invoking danger that has serious/permanent consequences. I'm glad to hear they scanned the negatives in 4K.

I think these were some of the last big Hollywood movies of the pre-digital intermediate modern era. The Prisoner of Azkaban and the subsequent Harry Potter movies were all 2K DI masters. Granted, back in early 2000's, 2K was definitely more than good enough since 1080p blu-rays were still at least 5 years from becoming mainstream.

Not to mention that 4K digital cameras from RED Digital weren't until several years later. Happy to know that Warners has remixed the audio for DTS:X. If I didn't already have all 8 movies on DVD, I'd probably have bought the 4K Harry Potter collection already.

I watched the Sorcerer's Stone Monday night, and was thoroughly impressed with both the video and audio. My original set was all DVDs, and I only had this one and the last four in BD. I agree with Ralph that the video quality is night and day between the UHD BD and regular BD. The original releases for all eight are inherently dark, and the HDR really helped the viewing experience. I have a 5.1.4 home theater, and found the DTS:X audio also night and day better. The immersion really stood out in the Quiddich scenes with all the objects flying around.I have read all the books, and was looking forward to viewing the extended cut in UHD, as the extended cut better matched the book. But, even though the jacket claims the extended cut is on both the UHD and BD discs, I find it is only on the BD disc and not on the UHD disc.My copy of Chamber of Secrets came smashed and was returned.

My replacement copy is due to be delivered today. Guess what my plan is for tonight's viewing! I'm glad to hear they scanned the negatives in 4K. I was disappointed that there weren't extended versions of years 3-8. I watched The Philosophers Stone last night (FYI the UK set is waaaaay cheaper than the U.S. Version) and that DTS:X tracked knocked my socks off. First one that's ever impressed me and I think it's maybe one of the more impressive overhead mixes I've ever heard.

Overheads are frequently active and the blending and movement of sounds is fantastic. Also, the dynamic range feels like it's been cranked up to 11, yet the louder elements retain their clarity. Extremely impressed. The whole set is like that audio wise.

The movies aren't extreme action all the time but when they call for sound, it's wonderfully done in DTS:X. I just watched goblet of fire last night and when they touch the shoe at the start of the movie to travel to the world cup the sound experience will knock your socks off. Probably my favorite scene yet sound wise.
